Background Info

Lucy Njeri was born on 6th October 2018 in Nakuru County, Kenya. She is the last child of Grace Nyambura and Peter Munyore. Lucy has three siblings; a brother Bernard and two sisters Veronica and Milkah.

Their mother Grace Nyambura is a casual labourer. She gets a few housekeeping jobs in a week. What she gets is barely enough for the family. Their father was unable to support them after he was laid off during the COVID pandemic. He has never found a stable job. He started hawking potatoes. Most times, he comes back home without having sold anything. He became depressed and gradually abandoned his wife and children.

Lucy and her siblings have grown up in this poor home. They were used to having one meal per day or none. This was until her elder brother Bernard Mungai was admitted in EDGEL Mission in 2021. The family started receiving food packages occasionally. However, their financial situation remained the same. Once Lucy was of school going age, her mother Grace was unable to raise the money required to enrol her in school. Any amount gathered was used for the simple needs of the family. Lucy’s mother could only hope that someday she would be lucky enough to gather the required amount. Luckily, Edgel Mission came to their rescue once more. During our regular home visits for our beneficiaries, we found out that there were plans for Lucy’s enrolment in school.

Lucy was assessed and admitted at EDGEL Academy in January 2023. She is a lovely little girl excited to be in class.
