Background Info

Loice Wambui was born on 20th March 2014. She is the last child of Phillis Kagiri’s six children. Loice and her siblings live with their grandparents, Emily and Sospeter Kagiri in Kwa-Rhonda slum.

Loice and her siblings have different fathers. Loice, like her grandparents, is unaware of his mother’s current whereabouts. Loice’s mother (Phillis) is known to be promiscuous. She started this behaviour while still a teenager in search of financial stability. This habit that made her sire many children from the different men she slept with. Every time she got pregnant, Phillis would abandon the baby at her parents place. This is how Loice and her siblings ended up living with his grandparents.

Loice’s elderly grandparents (Emily and Sospeter) are sick, weak, and with no reliable source of income. They have no savings or investments since they have never been formally employed. They only did low-paying casual jobs all their working lives which was basically from hand to mouth. Currently, they struggle to cater for these many dependents. The family mostly relies on leftovers collected from garbage bins around Nakuru City. These leftovers are scarcely found thereby leaving Loice and the other children at the home occasionally hungry.

Loice and her elder siblings were unable to attend school due to lack of money. They would accompany their grandfather in search of leftovers within the city. They were consistently mistaken for street children and despised. Loice and her siblings would often be spotted roaming around the slum instead of being in school.

Edgel Mission visited Loice at her home after a report from a concerned neighbour. Loice and her brother were found in need of support and admitted into Edgel Mission in 2023. Loice is a hard-working girl.
