Background Info

Faith Nyango was born on 23rd August 2017 in Nakuru County, Kenya. She is the first child of Cynthia Kageha and Peter Kageri. Faith has a younger sister and a brother. They live in Rhonda slums.

Cynthia (Faith’s mother) was born and raised in Nakuru County. However, Cynthia was an unwanted child of a single parent who would mistreat and abuse her. When Cynthia was a child, she got meningitis but her mother did not seek medical attention. This affected Cynthia’s mental growth, a condition that still affects her to date. She dropped out of primary school as her mother considered her too dumb. Due to the abuse from her mother, all Cynthia wanted was to leave the home, however, she had no money nor education to survive on her own.

Cynthia met Faith’s father Peter, their neighbour, when she was sixteen. They got into a relationship that Cynthia considered heaven-sent. She left her home immediately and went to live with Peter, a casual labourer. Faith was born soon after the couple settled. They added two more children. The growing family became a burden to Faith’s father whose earnings were too little. Over and above his own family, Faith’s father was also providing for his parents. As a result, there were constant arguments between Faith’s mother (Cynthia) and her mother-in-law. This made Cynthia to walk out of the union.

Faith and her family are currently being hosted by a family friend in the slum of Kwa Rhonda. Faith and her siblings have to survive on the little that their mother brings from her casual jobs. The family would often only afford one meal a day. On most occasion’s, Faith’s mother (Cynthia) has to borrow some food from her friends and neighbours. Additionally, Faith could not be enrolled in school since her mother is incapacitated.

Faith’s mother approached Edgel for help after being overwhelmed by her three children. We visited Faith at home and assessed her situation. We found her in need of support. Faith was admitted to EDGEL academy in 2023. She is very hard-working.

Faith needs a sponsor.
