Background Info
Abraham Waroru was born on 25th April 2018. He was born in the Rhonda Slums of Nakuru County. He is the last-born child of Ann Wanjiku. Ann has ten children. She is a widow struggling to care for these children. Her eighth child is disabled and immobile.
Abraham’s mother (Ann) was born and raised in Molo Sub-County. She lived with her grandmother. Ann never interacted with her mother. Her mother abandoned Ann and her siblings at their grandmother’s. She never came back for them. Ann’s grandmother was old and poor. They had a small farm that they depended on. From this farm, they could only get enough for their food. Nothing was left to sell or earn them money.
When she was 18, Ann decided to move out of the village. A friend got her a job as a house help in Nakuru town. She worked in this house for five years. In the course of five years, he met a young man and fell in love with him. Ann resigned from her job and got married to her lover. The man was a construction worker. He was very hardworking and would take care of Ann and the children. Abraham’s mother is not educated since she dropped out of school at a young age. She is also a member of a cult that does not support any kind of medication. As a result, she ignored the idea of birth control. Abraham’s mother ended up with eight children. Her husband was, however, able to provide for this family despite its size.
Unfortunately, Abraham father died in 2018. He succumbed to TB. Ann was left a helpless widow. She struggled raising the children. Since she had a special child, Ann paid much attention to him at the expense of the other children. This affected greatly Abraham. He was very young yet was being ignored by his mother. Furthermore, Ann could not to work well outside her home because the disabled child demanded much from her. This greatly affected the household’s income. The family could not afford the basic needs like food and clothing. The children became famished and weak. Moreover, Ann was also diagnosed with back problems therefore she could not engage in hard casual jobs.
Ann now relies on well-wishers for survival. She lives on donations from such people and good-hearted neighbours. The well-wishers helped her enrol seven of her children into different school. They left Abraham and her sister Esther. These two were considered for admission into EDGeL Mission. Abraham was admitted in EDGEL Academy in 2023. He is a happy boy willing to learn and grow in Christ.
