Background Info

Clinton Otiento is the last born child in the family of six. He was born in the year 2016. He has three sister and two brothers. His siblings are Samson (deceased), Elvin, Maureen (deceased), Eunice, and Sharleen. Currently, Clinton stays with his mother Mary Akinyi and siblings in Rhonda slums here in Nakuru.

Mary (Clinton's mother) is 35 years old. She is an orphan who was born and raised in the western part of Kenya. Her education stopped when she was 12 years after her parents' death. Mary was married off at 13 years old to David and they got four children. The man later married a second wife which triggered family feuds.

Two of Mary’s children died mysteriously in the same year. One of them died leaving behind a baby that was left under Mary’s care. Such mysterious deaths are often associated with witchcraft in many Kenyan tribes. The family wrangles that arose between Mary and the second wife couple with the mysterious deaths forced Mary to leave the marriage. She moved to Nakuru town in search of casual jobs.

In Nakuru, Mary met Clinton’s father George Odhiambo. They were together for a short while but George abandoned Mary soon after she got pregnant. She had to be self-reliant despite her pregnancy condition. She could not get a sustainable job and depended on occasional casual jobs even after the birth of Clinton. The wages she gets from these jobs are insufficient to cater for her dependent’s basic needs. She was also unable to facilitate Clinton’s education.

After a field assessment at their home, Clinton was admitted to Edgel to help the 35-year-old Mary.
