Background Info

Taji Ayebale was born in 2016 in Nakuru County. He is the third child of 35 year old Stella Amondi. Taji, his siblings and his mother are currently being hosted by a relative in Nakuru County.

Stella (Taji's mother) is a HIV patient. She is also unemployed. Her children (Shamim, Charles, and Taji) have different fathers. Taji's mother (Stella) grew up with relatives in rural areas. This was as a result of the death of her father. Taji's mother was a victim of sexual exploitation from a young age. At 17 years, Stella was deceived into marriage as a third wife. She did not have prior knowledge of the existence of the two first wives. The spouse infected her with HIV but Stella was unaware. She only discovered it after the birth of Shamim. The husband started despising Stella prompting her to run away from the matrimonial home. Later on, Stella got two more children (Charles and Taji) with short-term boyfriends.

After delivering Charles and Taji, Stella was unable to provide for their basic needs. She did not have any sustainable job and this sunk her into depression. She was hopeless and wished for death. Stella abandoned Taji and his siblings at his grandmother’s place. Taji lived there with his siblings and other relatives. Unfortunately, Taji’s grandmother passed on when Taji was two years old. With their grandmother gone, there was no one to take care of Taji and his siblings. Stella was forced to take up her motherly role. Since she was not economically stable, a relative offered to take her in with the children.

At her relative’s place, Stella was expected to provide and care for her children but this was not so. Stella often neglected the children thereby creating an emotional disconnect with them. She would engage in rampant prostitution and would seldom sleep at home. Taji would be left alone for long hours with his elder siblings. The siblings were too young to give him the required care. The children lacked basic needs and had to rely on well-wishers.

Edgel mission was notified of Taji’s plight in 2022. An assessment was conducted at his home and observed to be in need of support. Taji Ayebale was admitted to EDGeL in 2022. He is clever and enthusiastic.

Taji needs a sponsor.
