Background Info
Paul Kamau was born on 20th March 2014. He is the fifth child of Phillis Kagiri's six children. Paul and his siblings live with their grandparents, Emily and Sosperter Kaguiri in Kwa-Rhonda slum.
Paul and his siblings have different fathers. Paul, like his grandparents, is unaware of his mother's current whereabouts. Paul's mother (Phillis) is known to be promiscuous. She started this behaviour while still a teenager in search of financial stability. This habit that made her sire many children from different men she slept with. Every time she got pregnant, Phillis would abandon the baby at her parents place. This is how Paul and his siblings ended up living with his grandparents.
Paul’s elderly grandparents (Emily and Sospeter) are sick, weak, and with no reliable source of income. They have no savings or investments since they have never been formally employed. They only did low-paying casual jobs all their working lives. This made them live from hand to mouth. Currently, they struggle to cater for these many dependents. The family mostly rely on leftovers collected from garbage bins around Nakuru City. These leftovers are scarcely found thereby leaving Paul and the other children at the home occasionally hungry.
Paul and his elder siblings were unable to attend school due to lack of money. They would accompany their grandfather in search of leftovers within the city. They were consistently mistaken for street children and despised. Paul would often be spotted roaming around the slum when his peers were in school. This happening was communicated to Edgel by a concerned neighbor.
Paul was assessed and enrolled in the EDGeL Mission program in 2022. He is supposed to be in an advanced class, but he had to start from the pre-primary level. Paul is excited to be in school.
