Background Info

Innocent Gian is the fourth child of Victorine Akinyi. He was born in the year 2015 in Nakuru County. Innocent has seven siblings. They are Vincent (12 years old), Christian, Stephany, Happiness, Israel, Ashley and Daisy. Innocent lives with her siblings and mother in Kwa-Rhonda slums, Nakuru County.

Victorine (Innocent's mother is 32 years old. She is not well educated and does not have a job. Victorine was born in a poor family, a situation that sent her into marriage at a young age with no knowledge of contraceptives. She gave birth to Innocent and his seven siblings in a short span. Innocent's father is equally uneducated and unemployed so taking care of the growing family became a burden to him. He became an alcoholic addict and completely irresponsible. Innocent's mother is left in charge of taking care of her children.

Innocent and her seven siblings depend on the little that their mother brings home from her casual jobs. On top of the causal jobs, Innocent’s mother was also a market vendor selling tomatoes and roast maize. However, she did not earn much from her small business because of the small capital used and the full dependence on the business where all profits went to providing for the children. She had to close the business down, the family currently survives on her casual jobs where she goes around cleaning for people. Innocent’s family live in a single room of approximately 3 by 4 m2. The small dilapidated room is used for all functions, including sleeping, cooking and as a living room.

After an assessment of their poor living condition, we picked Innocent under our program. He was admitted to Prince of Peace School in 2020
