Background Info
Emmanuel Munene was born in the year 2015 in Kwa Rhonda slums, Nakuru County. He is the third child of Magdalene Wacera. He has two sisters; Joyce Wanjiru and Mary Anne and one brother, James Mwaura.
Emmanuel was born prematurely, at six months. After three months of close care by his mother, Emmanuel was diagnosed with a spinal cord problem. He was admitted in Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. Emmanuel’s father, (Joseph Mungai), insisted that Emmanuel’s mother (Magdalene) is associated with witchcraft hence the unfortunate condition on Emmanuel. He abandoned the family in the hospital with a large bill that was paid off by well-wishers.
Emmanuel, his mother and siblings had to return to Emmanuel’s grandparents’ home after being abandoned by his father. Emmanuel’s grandparents are just casual laborers who were unable to provide for the increased number of dependents. Their incomes are inconsistent making it hard for the family to avoid basic needs. Additionally, Emmanuel needed to make frequent visits to the doctor for physiotherapy. Emmanuel’s grandparents would struggle to support his medication until Emmanuel was able to walk. Emmanuel’s mother (Mother) had to take up casual jobs to help provide for her children. Her income is uncertain since she can sometimes work and fail to get paid. When Emmanuel reached school-going age, her mother could not afford to enrol him. She was still educating Emmanuel’s elder brother and sister. Emmanuel was forced to stay at home for several years.
Edgel saw the need and offered a helping hand. We took in Emmanuel Munene. Emmanuel was admitted to Prince of Peace in 2020 after an assessment at their home. He is a very hard-working and talented boy.
