Background Info

Stacy Wambui was born in Narok County in the year 2014. She is the second child of Elisabeth Nyambura. She has an older brother Kevin Kahendo. Stacy and her brother currently live in the Kwa Rhonda slums, Nakuru County, Kenya. They live with Stacy’s old and ailing great-grandparents (John Njehia and Hannah Wangari)

Stacy’s mother (Elisabeth), separated from Stacy’s father when Stacy was four years old. Elisabeth was an orphan and uneducated making it hard for her to get any job. She endured years of abuse and domestic violence. Elisabeth had to leave the informal union with Stacy and Stacy’s brother and left them at their great-grandparents home.

The old great-grandparents, (John and Hannah) are unable to provide for Stacy and her brother. John and Hannah were both casual labourers but are currently unable to work due to their age. John (great-grandfather) is 83 years old, while Hannah (Great-grandmother) is 68. John is partially blind and can barely walk well. Hannah suffers from arthritis and back pain. They rely on well-wishers for survival.

In 2020, EDGeL Mission conducted an assessment at Stacy’s home after receiving a referral from a teacher. Stacy was admitted to Edgel Mission in 2020. Stacy is hard-working, intelligent and dedicated.
