Background Info

James Ouma was born in Nakuru County in 2015. He is the fifth child of Pamela Akinyi. One of his siblings is called James Omondi. James is also a beneficiary at Edgel Mission. He has two other brothers and a sister. Currently, James and his family are being hosted in small room in Shabab, Nakuru.

Pamela (James’s mother) is a 40-year-old widow. James’s father died in the year 2017 leaving Pamela as the sole guardian of the five children. James’s mother (Pamela) is an uneducated woman. She used to be a stay-at-home mother as her late husband took care of the family. After the death of James’s father, his relatives stormed James’s home and took all their assets claiming that it was their kin’s wealth. They also attempted to practice cultural “wife inheritance” but Pamela refused and moved to an affordable part of Rhonda slums and was later hosted by a well-wisher.

The death of his father left James in a challenging situation. Together with his siblings, they lacked basic needs at home since their uneducated mother is unable to get a sustainable job. James’s mother would do causal jobs like cleaning people’s houses for some money. James grew up watching his mother struggle to make things work for her and her children. The only long-lasting job that James’s mother could get was being a house-help, a job that pays so little compared to her household needs.

Edgel Mission conducted an assessment to James’s home where we got a chance to understand his plight. James was admitted at Prince of Peace School in the year 2019. He is currently in Pre-primary one. He is talented in different activities.

James needs a sponsor.
