Background Info

Christine Musomi was born in the year 2014. She was born in Bungoma County, in the Western part of Kenya. Christine is the eldest child of Penina Nanjala. Penina is 24 years old. She was born and raised in Bungoma County. She grew up in a poor home and could not afford basic needs. Her well-off aunt took Penina to educate her. Penina was able to go successfully finish high school. She was then enrolled in a technical training institute, but her aunt passed on in her first year. Penina dropped out of school and went back to her home.

The situation was still the same. It was hard to get any meal. Penina took up casual jobs around the village to help her family out. She was not able to land a decent job because she did not have a training certificate. In the process of looking for their daily meal, she met Christine’s father. Their relationship was not known to their parents. Penina fell pregnant shortly after. The young man responsible was not ready for a wife. He moved from the village without telling Penina. When Christine was a year old, the man came back to the village. He claimed that he was now ready for a serious relationship. They rekindled their romantic relationship. The man promised Penina and the child a better life in the city. Penina moved to Nakuru town to live with the man. She got pregnant again and gave birth to a baby girl named Melvin. The husband became irresponsible. He would drink and abuse Penina and the children. Penina decided to get a job to get some food for the children. Unfortunately, Penina did not get any well-paying work. She started asking around for casual jobs. She only got work as a house help. With the little money, she rented a small mud single room in Ponda Mali slums. She is currently working as a casual labourer cleaning clothes for some money. The jobs are not guaranteed. Sometimes she does not get any work for the whole week. Christine and Melvin can only get some food when Penina is lucky. Christine joined Prince of Peace School in 2019 after a field visit to their home. Christine is self-disciplined and determined.
