Background Info

Susan Nyaboke was born in Nyamira on 8th of June in the year 2013. She is the second born of Dorice Nyamwita and Samuel. Her elder brother is called Mark Machuki., born in 2009. Susan’s mother is 28 years old. Dorice was raised up in Migori County. She belonged to a very humble family that could not cater for her education. She dropped out in class 5. She was thereafter tricked into marriage by her father and elder brother. The two (the father and the Dorice’s brother) had devised a plan to marry her off to Samuel’s family in Nyamira county. Samuel was mentally handicapped. Dorice was abandoned at her in-law’s home. She was only 15 years old. Her father only cared for the bride price.

Dorice was distressed but later decided to conform to reality, so she accepted the situation she was in. She started caring for her house. They were blessed with two children in that marriage; Susan and Mark. The husband’s condition kept him from working and caring for his family. Therefore, they all depended on Dorice. She would cultivate people’s farms for a meagre amount that they would share. Dorice developed a health condition that made her stay bedridden for a long time. The in-laws decided to chase her and her children. She went back to her parent’s home in Migori. She got well and started looking for a job in the cities. She had resolved never to get married again.

She luckily got a job in Nakuru. She came over and started work immediately. This work, however, did not provide enough cash for both her and her children. She found a man, Albert Machuki, who was willing to marry her. Albert is a watchman. They both came to this marriage with a child from previous marriages. Albert came in with Newton Wonder, while Dorice came in with Mark and Susan. Even with combined efforts, they are still unable to take care of their children sufficiently. Edgel Mission settled on helping educate both Susan and Newton Wonder after conducting a field assessment.
