Gagrinah Ambasa was born in Nakuru County in the year 2013. She is the second child of Felisia Auma. Felisia is a 30-year-old woman. Felisia was a bright girl in school. She completed her secondary school education. She could not attend college because her mother could not afford it.
Felisia opted to find a job to help her mother survive. It was hard to land a job because she had no technical skills. Felisia could only land casual jobs around town. She did not give up. She believed that she would be able to save and continue her education. In the process, she met and fell in love with a man; he was her age mate.
Felisia believed that the man was a perfect partner for her. They got their firstborn daughter a year later. This slowly started changing in the house. Her husband would shout at her and cause chaos. Felisia realized that the man was not happy about providing for them. Felisia found herself pregnant again with Gagrinah. There was nothing she could do but hope for the best. Unfortunately, things only got worse. The husband would beat her when she was pregnant. He would deny her food. Felisia endured the marriage. She was not able to work because Gagrinah was still very young. She experienced violence. Sometimes she was beaten in front of the elder child. She separated from Gagrinah’s father in 2014.
Felisai went back to her home. Her mother Jennifer Achieng, accepted her and her children. After some time, Felisia decided to leave the children and look for work. She moved to the coast of Kenya in Mombasa. However, she never found a well-paying job. She does not have the certificates needed. She only gets low-paying manual work. She does not earn enough to send home for the children’s upkeep. Currently, Gagrinah She lives with her sister and other cousins at their grandparents’ in Rhonda slums, Nakuru West sub-county. Their mother works in Mombasa as a casual labourer. Gagrinah’s grandmother is old. She is unable to engage in energetic activities. She only handles casual jobs like cleaning for people to get some food for Gagrinah and other dependents. Sometimes she does not get any money, and the children sleep hungry. She is also not able to educate any of the children. They rely on well-wishers for survival. Gagrinah was admitted to Prince of peace school in the year 2019 after an assessment at their home. Gagrinah is hardworking and very determined.
