Background Info

Lionel Onyango was born on 9th September 2013, in Siaya County, Kenya. He is the third Child of Lillian Atieno. He has three siblings, Victor, Nelly, and Shallet. Lillian comes from Siaya County. She hails from a low-income family that cannot afford basic needs. Lillian started looking for support from men from a young age. She got pregnant at 14 years and gave birth to her first Child, Victor. Life at the poor home with a baby was very hard. Lillian still believed that she would find a man who would take good care of her. She later fell into the same trap as a man from the same village. The man promised to marry Lillian and took her to his home. Lillian did not have peace in this home, as the in-laws would insult and abuse her. The in-laws claimed that she was a prostitute for having a child at 14 years at home

Lillian endured the marriage and gave birth to Nelly. The abuse became overwhelming and forced her to run away when pregnant with Lionel. She went back to her home and briefly lived with her mother and three children. Lillian later decided to move to a town and look for any work that she could find. She left her two elder children, Victor and Nelly, with her mother and moved with Lionel to Nakuru. She did not get any job because she was uneducated. She had to survive on casual jobs to feed Lionel. When trying to settle in Nakuru, she met another man working as a guard. Lillian believed that this man would help her settle and provide for her needs. Months later, she fell pregnant and gave birth to Charlotte. The man could not support them with his meagre salary. He started abusing Lilian in from of the children. Lilian endures this abuse because she does not have a means of sustaining herself

Currently, Lionel lives with his Mother, Lilian and sister in the Ponda-mali slums. They live in a little mud house. The walls of this house frequently fall away, forcing them to mold mud to cover the holes. Lionel was admitted to Prince of peace school in 2019 after an assessment at their home in Ponda Mali. He is very hardworking and friendly.
