Background Info

Enock Makau was born in Nyahururu village, Nakuru County, on 19th April 2012. He is the third born of Ruth Wanjiru. Enock, his two brothers and a sister live with their mother in Kwa Rhonda slums, Nakuru County. Ruth grew up in Nyahururu with her aunt. She was denied the right of education as she was expected to do all the house chores.

Ruth was overworked at the home, she decided that marriage was the only way out of her situation. Ruth got married to Enock’s father when she was just a teenager. They lived from hand to mouth as Enock’s father had no stable source of income. The couple was blessed with four children. Life become extremely difficult for them in the village. They decided to move to Nakuru to seek better opportunities.

In Nakuru, the husband started working as a constructor. He would work at any construction site for daily wages. He tried providing for his own family but the money was not enough. The insufficiency of money frustrated the husband, he became abusive and quarrelsome. He also indulged in excessive alcohol consumption. Ruth found this life unbearable. She separated from the husband.

Ruth Wanjiru started living alone with her children. However, the husband would still come after her. He would beat her up and demand that she goes back to his house since she is his legitimate wife. He did all these in the presence of Enock and his siblings. Ruth does not comply, but she continuously lives in fear for her life.Ruth is currently jobless. She has always struggled to sustain her children. Enock, who saw the horrors of his father, needed some help. Edgel intervened and enrolled Enock in our program. Enock Makau was admitted to Prince of Peace School in January 2019. Enock is a clever and talented boy.
